"Here For a Good Time, Not a Long Time"

Someone very close to me lives by the motto, “I’m here for a good time not a long time.” When it was first said to me, I was kind of speechless. Because the adaptability in me and the acceptance of new perspectives tried to grasp the concept. I knew I personally didn’t believe in it, but at that moment, I couldn’t explain why that is NOT a motto to live by. After all, the quote seems to have a good point, if it’s fun, why not do it all the time? I had to really dissect it. And here are my thoughts.

For starters, let me just say you don’t get to determine how long you live (unless you drive yourself to suicide.) We are Co-creators, *CO* creators of our lives but NOT the ultimate Creator. You are not the one true Creator.

Your fun, your actions, your behaviors are unhealthy and you think “So what if I cut a few years off my life? I had fun!" & "I don't want to live so long anyway." Well I would like to point out from a psychological perspective, that is a clear sign of not being that happy with life. Because if you were truly having a good time, wouldn’t you want it to last forever? And wouldn’t a truly good feeling not have unhealthy, horrible, and damaging effects on you? Okay.

And from a spiritual perspective, the Creator can very well keep you alive. You may end up living a very, very, long life - despite your motto. Only to realize that you are here for longer than you thought and you are suffering. Life is painful for you. And it feels like there is no end in sight. Time is an illusion, but if you are going through something, it can feel very real and very long. After all, we are humans on Earth & time has its purpose here.

Or maybe you actually found something, maybe you found someone you love and they are (or it is) so awesome that you think to yourself, 'I kind of want to stick around for a little while longer.' to enjoy said person or thing. But because  of your actions and your motto, you have only 6 months left to live. Yes, I believe that you will be able to reverse that outcome if you know how to from a spiritual, mental, AND physical standpoint. But based on your motto, I would not assume that you would have that knowledge or get that knowledge. You would have to be willing to change your whole life around in such a short period of time. It takes cultivation, progress, courage, strength, perseverance, and time. I was inspired to write this post while reading a financial book and author Dave Ramsey said, "Don't wait for a heart attack to show you that you are overweight."

We must stop treating life like it is not sacred. Like it is not divine. Like it is just some random, meaningless thing. You will realize in the end. One way or another. Truth will come to you. You will be humbled. You will eventually surrender.
